UZUMAKI

post-SONAR, my mind continues being melted by Junji Ito’s Uzumaki, an incredible, meticulously imagined narrative in the form of a Japanese horror manga. “Spiral into horror.” (shout to Matt Madden for the tip)

.

I don’t usually remember my dreams. But for the last week, I’ve been dreaming – and remembering – horrible things: a friend stabbed to death, car accidents, waiting for police to arrive after something dreadful has occurred. Fair chance Ito is the source.

  1. Me too! I never remember my dreams, but I’ve been having horrible, apocalyptic nightmares lately. They say the mercury is in retrograde, but I’m not sure what that means exactly 😐

  2. The Enigma of Amigara Fault, you can find it online if you google it and i’ll never forget the title (guess why).

  3. I’ve been meaning to read Uzumaki for a while now… and randomly it shows up in front of my face, alongside flu styled mamba.

I spent the better part of the day reading Uzumaki, Gyo & Amigara Fault.

Why did I do that. Now I’m dizzy. Forreals.

  4. Yes – Gyo is great, as are the two museum of terror books collecting his Tomie and miscellaneous stories. Amigara fault is probably my favourite Ito.

Also – check out the Hino Horrors. Hideshi Hino’s masterpieces in about 14 small volumes.
