NYC’s latin radio was killing it this weekend. I’ve got evidence (mostly culled from La Mega).
Exhibit A starts off w/ ersatz Brazilian bassline then goes into a Max Romeo (Prodigy sample-source) edit which moves into a Mavado ‘So Special’ speedy house/baltimore remix thingy, and on. Heavy ‘buttbending’ mixology throughout. The Don Omar “Cuando yo me muera” jam – can anybody ID this?
[audio:2009-02-28_01h37m47.mp3]If that’s not enough – to raise the bar a few notches – here’s 18 minutes of merengue de la kalle / mambo violento / Dominican gabba. Omega owns this session.

niceness! that merengue de la kalle set reminds me how much i want to hear tego ride a mambo beat. those reggaeton cats need to get on this. matter of time? (why absorb bachata but not mambo?)
Mambo is definitely making iwaves in Puerto Rican dancehalls. I had some long conversations with my brother recently about whats happening in Perreo these days on the island and he put me on to mambo jams from Jowell y Randy, Archangel and I’m pretty sure somewhere in my hard drive a tego mambo refix or two. If I come across it this week I’ll come back with some titles for ya.
incredible that at about 9:20 in the first one that have that house-ball clip – is that super unique sample (daa da-da da-da da-dat!) cropping up outside of the ball/vogueing circles? or maybe the djs gay? or just open to it…

This is sick. I live in South Florida but unless I’ve been missing something or am not close enough to Miami there is no equivalent down here.
Plenty of Jamaican and Haitian pirate radio though
Chilimoya – let me know if you’ve got an Haitian/Jamaican pirate rips, would love 2 hear!!
any chance of a re-up of exhibit b jace?
